A youngster, whose father died in the First World War as a fighter pilot, is determined to become an aviator. By chance he got to know the ace-pilot Ernst Udet (the later air force general plays himself here), with whom he is even allowed to fly over the Matterhorn. When he later, now a student of gliding in the Zugspitze region, had to jump off with a parachute, Udet, who heard the radio announcement, rescued him from difficulties in the mountain. The excellent aerial photographs served their purpose at the time, to inspire the air squadrons of the new Germany. The film, which was declared „valuable in terms of state policy“ and „popular education“, was banned by the Allied military government after 1945 with a screening ban.
